SteynOnline is on hiatus for a while as I catch up with some long-term and far-flung projects. But don't worry, we will return.
Meanwhile, the campaign to restore Canadians' right to free speech continues. Since Maclean's and I had this cause thrust upon us late last year, our battle to roll back the criminalization of opinion has gained the support of Liberal MP Keith Martin; PEN Canada; the Canadian Association of Journalists; The Globe And Mail, The National Post, The Toronto Star and every other major newspaper in Canada; publications around the world from The New York Post to The Australian; the CBC's Neil MacDonald, Salman Rushdie and all kinds of other unlikely allies.
I'm especially grateful to readers who've chosen to express their support by buying our new America Alone Free Speech Special. We don't have a legal defense fund and I want to keep it that way. If you want to help, I'd rather you got a book or T-shirt in return. However, if you are anxious to donate, then send something the way of the Freedom Five - the handful of bloggers targeted by Richard Warman, the man who's turned Section 13 of Canada's Human Rights Code into his own personal Lucy's Law. So please spare a buck or two for Ezra, Kate, Kathy, and Connie and Mark at Free Dominion - and don't forget Guy Earle, the Toronto comic plunged into "human rights" hell by the joke police of the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal. Whether you incline to the right like Ezra Levant or to the left like Guy Earle and his comedy comrades, you have to be ever more nimble to avoid the vise-like grip of Canada's government speech regulators.
The Binkmeister at Free Mark Steyn! is your one-stop shop for daily updates on the campaign. And check in with my pals at The Corner for all the tears and laughter of Campaign 2008.
See you soon,
Mark

Politics & warThe short version of the Democratic Party primary campaign is that the media fell in love with Barack Obama but the Democratic electorate declined to.
"I felt this thrill going up my leg," said MSNBC's Chris Matthews after one of the senator's speeches. "I mean, I don't have that too often."... Read more...

Greatest hitsDear Mark,
Can you please republish some of the funniest columns from the late 1990s when Clinton sex jokes were all the rage and you once wrote about Monica’s dress in the witness protection program?
Best wishes,
